If one has had any of the symptoms for leprosy or has come in contact with someone who has the disease, your doctor or local health care provider should be called immediately, and if you have leprosy in the United States, the case must be reported to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention. Once brought in by your doctor the following tests will most likely be available in order to achieve an accurate diagnosis. These tests include:
  • Lepromin Skin Test: used to distinguish lepromatous from tuberculoid leprosy
  • Skin Lesion Biopsy
  • Skin Scraping: This involves taking a sample of the skin to test for Mycobacterium Leprae
